Implantable Garbage Cans for Beach

The Dustbin 4 Beach is a portable and streamlined bin that can be pitched into the sand. This garbage cans was designed by Ji-in Byun, Cho Jung Seok and Oh Seul Ki with a recognition that crowds come, go and move as quickly and frequently as the tides, making it a much more effective object to discourage unnecessary littering. It achieves this because it is portable, and can be moved to the optimal position adjacent to larger groups of sunbathers, swimmers and Sunday picnickers. Large curving keels at the base of each Dustbin 4 Beach allow them to be wedged securely into the sand. Additionally, the three colorful trash cans are distinguished to indicate their priorities for different waste materials. [via]

CO2 Fire Extinguisher with Oxygen Mask

Smoke inhalation is the primary cause of death among victims of fires. To solve this problem, Chang Min-Chien, Shih Te-Chung, and Chuang Tsai-Feng proposed an efficient fire-fighting that combines two items used in fire situations, i.e the CO2 fire extinguisher and an oxygen mask. This combined product offers an efficient instrument that will help people to escape from fires. The clever idea behind the design of the O2 and CO2 Fire Extinguisher is accompanied by sleek triangular prismatic forms. A bright red finish makes the piece of emergency equipment easy to locate in a panic. [via]

Cash Conversion System for Travellers

Add Up by Fan Cheng Kuei, Deng Pei Chih, and Hsieh Tsai Ni is a cash conversion system for travellers that puts small change to good use. It is based on the idea of making full use of the foreign small change. Add Up provides a way to exchange the foreign currency into one’s domestic currency and put it to good use. It can be donated to a local charity, added to one’s phone account as credit, or converted into Skype points.

After the currency is exchanged, there are often a few digits after the decimal point. The system will automatically round down the number and donate the small remainder as a micro-donation. When such a small amount is multiplied by over two billion – the world’s annual number of travellers – a massive difference can be made to society. [via]
