Mo:Ben is a portable food container designed by Alex Cheong that incorporates an integral film heater element to heat up food (i.e. lunches) to a re-heated temperature. The design maintains the heat through a combination of the heating element and foam-filled cavity insulation. Consisting of two parts, the external box features a carry handle, cutlery storage, non-slip silicon rubber base, and a temperature sensitive material for indication of food preparation. The internal box, where the food is held can be separated to enable convenient dishwashing. Utensils are designed into the box encouraging food variety, while compartment segmentation prevents the mixing of food.
Mo:Ben aspires to redefine the lunchtime eating experience. This design has been inspired by traditional Japanese ideals of functionality and simplicity of the bento box while fusing it with modern technology of heating, insulation and materials. The product is designed to allow the user a wide range of eating experiences and seeks to encourage better dietary behavior. In addition to the user experience, by addressing issues like a one-hour lunch break and limited microwave units, Mo:Ben attempts to eliminate this current problem by returning control of time to the user.
