InnieOutie: Flexible Saucepan Lid Grip

In Western home kitchens, it is common to find a vast array of pots and pans of differing sizes. These are often stored in a nested fashion, with smaller pots inside larger pans. This leaves the lids loose and in a jumble. Hard knobs on the lids prevent stacking, cause interference when the lids are placed in the dishwasher, and cause a higher level of valuable storage space to be occupied. The InnieOutie designed by Charles Ingrey-Senn of Caisdesign Associates solves these problem perfectly.

The InnieOutie pop-up saucepan lid grip addresses these problems by providing a hold that can be of low profile when not in use, but that can be quickly and effortlessly transformed into a full and comfortable grip when required. The grip utilizes the flexible behavior of silicone rubber, which has been formed in a hollow convex dome. Depressing the monogrammed button in the center of the grip distorts the dome, stretching the silicone rim to, in turn, flip the dome inside out and create a concave dome. The elasticity of the silicone then holds this shape and provides a simple, elegant, and heat-resistant grip to the saucepan lid.

With simple construction and operation, the InnieOutie pop-up saucepan grip is a welcome and elegant solution to the problem of storage space for pan lids. After cooking, the lid is easily cleaned and the user need only push down the grip with the palm of their hand to invert the dome back to its resting convex shape. Now the InnieOutie lid is ready for storage once again. [via]
