Transparent Mobile Phone with Second Life

We often forget about the battery life of our mobile phones, hence run out of juice, just at the wrong time. The Second Life Mobile Phone Concept by Korean designers Cho Sinhyung and Jeon Jungjae works on the premise that no such worst thing will happen. As a remedy (rather power-saver-option) the phone incorporates a double display. When in active use the AMOLED screen powers up in all glory and in standby mode the E-ink display gets active. This essentially means that the E-ink uses very little energy and the degree of transparency of the display shows how much battery is remaining. The more transparent the display, the less battery remaining. So besides ultra-low power consumption, the transparent screen offers an intuitive expression: “You’re low on juice so better recharge the phone soon!” Apparently the E-ink uses power to change the degree of transparency and doesn’t add to the battery load. The World’s Simplest Cell Phone by John Doe Design Studio

Created and developed by the Dutch design studio John Doe, these phones aim to be one thing and one thing only: a phone. Dubbed the world’s simplest cell phone, John's phones allow users to make and receive calls without add-ons like a camera, text messaging or a variety of ringtones. The interface is stripped down to the familiar keypad with buttons to adjust the volume and lock the buttons. Users can store numbers using speed dial or record contact info using the paper address book and pen stored in the back. The phone comes with a one display that is used to show numbers located on the top side of the device. The phone comes in five colours and is currently available on the dutch market.

John’s Phone requires no explanation. Use the phone to call and hang up, turn the sound up or down, and lock or unlock it: it couldn’t be any simpler. The speed-dial feature, which allows you to save speed-dial numbers under every number key, makes John’s Phone perfect as a kids’ cell phone. Phone is a large-key phone. The back of the phone features a flap containing an address book and a pen – this makes John’s Phone perfect for older users too. [via]
