Automatic Water-Saving Device

Water Lock is both a water meter and a locking device for use on bathtub taps that functions without consuming electricity. This automatic water-saving product designed by Prof. T.K Philip Hwang, Prof. Fan Cheng Kuei, Fu Shou Hsi, Wang Chih Wei, Hsu Wei Ling, Lai Yu Ren, and Chen Yi An from National Taipei University of Technology, Graduate Institute of Innovation and Design. Water Lock allows the user to set the desired volume of water for their bath, and leave the flow of water unmonitored. The flow will be automatically stopped when the set volume has run through the tap. The purpose is to avoid the wastage of water through the over-filling of the bathtub.

Water Lock simultaneously records and displays the water volume. When the water is flowing, it is ‘on’. When the flow is terminated, Water Lock is ‘off’. It uses the principle of a combination padlock for its operation. It is expected that the device would increase users’ awareness of their water consumption while helping them to avoid wastage. Locko: Lockable Outdoor Water Tap

Locko is a lockable outdoor water tap that uses a combination lock so it cannot be turned on by those who are unauthorized to use it. It has been designed by Arman Emami of Emami Design for gardens and public accessible areas. Locko offers a user-friendly and practical solution that is very easy to implement, as the lock mechanism is located in the handle. The lock is perfectly integrated and therefore does not influence the standard parts for water flow regulation, or the seals. The closing mechanism does not come into contact with the water flow. This enables efficient and economically viable production. Locko embodies a very straightforward design; its shape is reduced to the most essential features. Geometry and harmonic proportions prevail. [via]
